EndNote is an extremely sophisticated bibliographic management package. It is available as a desktop program on all open-access university machines and can be downloaded onto personal laptops etc whilst you are a student of the university. It is also available as an online program to use if you are not working on your own machine. The desktop and online versions can sync with each other to keep your own library of references up-to-date.
Accessing EndNote
EndNote 2025
On campus/university-owned computers
EndNote 2025 is currently available on all open-access computers on campus. If you have previously used EndNote 21 you should find little difference. You can still use EndNote 21 if you have already downloaded it onto your own machine.
EndNote 2025 can also be downloaded to other university-owned machines by accessing the Software Centre from the Windows menu.
On your own computer
The University's EndNote agreement allows University of Hull students and staff to install EndNote on their own Windows or macOS. Just visit the Support Portal and search ‘EndNote’.
Issues with using EndNote on OneDrive
There are some known issues with using EndNote on OneDrive and the ideal situation would be to locate your library on the hard drive of your own laptop or PC. If you are unable to do this, then please consult this help from IT Services to ensure you do not lose any of your data: EndNote on OneDrive.
EndNote online
EndNote Online allows you to access your library on machines that do not have the desktop app or installed or your library locally available. To access EndNote Online follow this link myendnoteweb.com and create an account using your university email. Once you have gained access to EndNote Online, you can also download the free Cite While You Write installer (available from the Downloads tab) so that you can still cite within MS Word. You can also configure any desktop library to sync with your web-based library and so have an up-to-date version of your library on any machine with EndNote installed.
Mobile app
There is a free EndNote app available for the iPad which means you can read and make notes on papers in your EndNote library whilst you are on the go, or in the comfort of your armchair. Just search for EndNote in the app store.

Find Full Text off-campus via EZproxy
If you are working off-campus, you can use EZproxy to improve the success of the Find Full Text feature in EndNote. To add these settings to EndNote, choose Edit (EndNote on macOS), Preferences and select Find Full Text. Then enter the following details:
